ASTANA – Kazakh airline Air Astana was named the most dynamically developing carrier of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) at the Pulkovo Saint Petersburg Airport in its LED Together competition.
The sixth annual ceremony LED Together brought together representatives of airlines, tourism and cultural industries of Saint Petersburg and North-West Russia.
Pulkovo is the fourth largest airport in Russia by the number of passengers served. It is located 23 kilometres from the Palace Square in the centre of St. Petersburg. LED is the code that was assigned to the airport when the city was called Leningrad. This code was used throughout the Soviet era and is still used today.
ASTANA – First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin recently inspected the progress of construction of the Astana International Airport, where he saw the course of construction of the new terminal and reconstruction of the runway, according to primeminister.kz.
“The object is being built under the Nurly Zhol State Programme. It will allow to increase the people flow of air harbour of the capital from 3 million to 7.7 million passengers a year, which is especially important on the eve of EXPO 2017,” according to the statement.
Construction is on schedule and the frame of a new airport terminal has been already built. Roofing work has been completed as well. Facade installation, engineering services and interior decoration of the building are being carried out now.
The object is equipped with the latest technology, which will significantly improve service and aviation security.
Construction of the facility is planned to be completed by the first quarter of 2017.
Astana Airport was founded in 1931 as a small airport for small aircraft service and today it is one of the most modern airports in the region. At the moment, the airport serves 19 airlines offering scheduled passenger flights to the near and far abroad countries.
The capital’s airport offers regular flights to all regional centers of Kazakhstan, as well as to the Commonwealth of the Independent Countries cities – Moscow, Tashkent, Kiev, Minsk, Tbilisi, Bishkek, Baku, Kazan, Novosibirsk, Omsk, St. Petersburg and Ekaterinburg. From 4th May, 2016 for the first time Astana-Amsterdam scheduled flight will be opened from Astana airport. KLM Airline will connect two capitals of Kazakhstan and the Netherlands. Flight will be operated on comfortable aircraft Airbus A-330, 4 times a week on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Amsterdam is 26 international flight from Astana airport. Netherlands is popular route among Kazakh tourists. HAMBURG, Germany (April 5, 2016) – Air Astana passengers will soon become among the first in the world to experience broadband in-flight connectivity following an agreement recently signed with Rockwell Collins, a leading provider of information management solutions for the aviation industry.
Internet access will be available using personal computers, tablets and smartphones.
Air Astana will install the associated Inmarsat Global Xpress (GX) high speed connectivity system on its fleet of Boeing 767 airliners commencing in September 2016. This will make Air Astana one of the world’s first airlines in the world to go operational with the GX system.

ASTANA – One hundred sixty-seven billion tenge ($902 million) has been slated for investment into Kazakhstan’s airports, Director General of the Airport Management Group LLP Claude Badan announced on Jan. 29 at a Central Communications Service briefing.
The investment will be made over the next five years, Badan said, with many large-scale projects to be implemented between 2015 and 2017. Work is ongoing now on new terminals at Astana and Kyzylorda airports and other upgrades, including introducing new systems to control queues, are being put into place, he said.
